Introduction. Dr. Lee has just given us an excellent talk on the theoretical implication of parity non-conservation in β-decay. He also outlined the various experimental evidences which one would expect to observe under various combination of the coupling constants. The maximum number of coupling constants to be determined thus has leaped from a mere five for the old theory to thirty five or thirty eight in all at the present state. Fortunately, possible means and methods for the investigation of these coupling constants are also greatly increased and extended.

This appears to be in serious disagreement with the result obtained by Ruby and Rustad.
As mentioned by Professor Konopinski, if this point is potted on the Scott diagram, taken in conjunction with the Ne19 and A35 results, it suggests either a (V,A) or (V,T,A) interaction.

Illinois team frames the experimental conundrum

The work with which this report is concerned was done by the Illinois group: J.S. Allen, P. Stähelin, W.B. Herrmannsfeldt and D.R. Mason.

Fig. 4, prepared by P. Stähelin, shows all presently available experimental results, together with the theoretically expected values for various pairs of interactions. Fig. 4 shows immediately how confused the situation is.No single assignment explains all the results. The possibilities are open: (1) The beta decay interaction is VA and the beautiful He6 experiment is wrong, (2) The interaction is ST and one discards the careful A35 measurement, (3) All results are correct and the electrons, represented by He6 and N, possess ST; the positrons (Ne19 and A35) VA.
