Born Woif Schattner, Ze'ev went to Palestine as a young man, and therefore escaped the fate of his family members. With his wife Penina, he was a founder of Kibbutz Afek. Their descendants across Israel are the legacy of Ringel family in the land of milk and honey. 

Sister of Hermann Ringel who married Pinkas Twiasschor and raised two daughters on her own after Pinkas abandoned the family. Betty was deported from Berlin in 1942, and she perished at the Sobibor death camp.
