I recounted my own mother’s desperate flight from Nazi Germany to freedom and the obstacles placed in her way by the ‘racist and anti-Semitic America First’ immigration laws of that time before building a resplendent life in America, a country she loved and to which she greatly contributed.
Yet at one time my mother, Helga Ruby z”l, was an ‘illegal’ too, and barely escaped with her life as millions of other desperate Jews were murdered while America and the world looked the other way.
