Family in Lottstetten
The known line of descent of the Rehm family in Lottstetten goes back at least as far as the 1600s, but it undoubtedly has far earlier roots there. Jumping to the more recent past, Lorenz Rehm was born in 1799, the son of Josephus Rehm and Mary Ann Meister.. He had several brothers including one named Matthias. All of these given names will be passed down to future generations.
Lorenz married Maria Anna Stammherr in 1827, and they produced 13 children together. There is some confusion about Maria’s surname, because her son Matthaus, later Matthew Rehm, misremembered it when applying for his own marriage certificate in New York City. Some Rehm family trees still show her name as Schonencherr, but Stammherr is correct.
Other than church marriage and birth records that provide only names and dates we have no information that gives insight into their lives. Of the Rehm offspring in Lottstetten, Matthaus was the only one I can find who came to America, though a grandson of a brother was a miner in Sinaloa, Mexico. A few died young, but most of the family remained in Lottstetten and are likely related to the Rehm family members who are prominent in the town today.
