Rehm legacy in Lottstetten
The Rehm family continues to own and manage REHM Kies- & Betonwerk (Gravel and Concrete Plant) GmbH & Co., the gravel and concrete business in Lottstetten and nearby Rüdingen. Three Rehm siblings—Urban, Markus and Luciaare the co-directors, and several of their children are executives in the family business.
According to the company website, “the diversity of the Rehm gravel works can be found not only in its focus on gravel mining, gravel processing, and ready-mixed concrete production, but also in the areas of earthworks, demolition, waste disposal, and building material recycling.”
Many Rehm family members are listed in local directories or are active in local organizations. Lucia Rehm chaired the regional chamber of commerce. Urban Rehm and a Walter Rehm are each leaders of local music associations. Barbara Rehm-Pfenninger is a lawyer and tax advisor with expertise in border and customs matters.
Several Rehm family members are active in the Lottstetten Old Catholic church. The Old Catholics were disparate churches that separated from Rome over doctrinal issues in the 1870s, after Matthew had emigrated, and that federated together in the Union of Utrecht in 1889. Evidently, some of the Rehm family were among the separatists, but the matter was not so important to Germans in New York, where the Rehm family practiced as Roman Catholics.
In addition to the Rehm family, the Stammherr name in Lottstetten persists to the present, as does a third surname, Merkt, that appears in several places in the family tree.
