The second clipping that showed up in a search of the New York Times classifieds was this April 7, 1946 announcement of Stan's previous engagement to Lorraine (who gets a last name—Sweedler—for the first time in our family narrative).

We have long known about Stan's broken engagement with Lorraine before renewing his previous acquaintance with Helga. In Walter's "Early Lives of Stan and Helga Ruby" manuscript, he describes how. after the breakup, the hightly practical Stan sought a new girlfriend who lived within a 20 block radius of Selma's apartment on W. 73rd St. Helga was slightly outside that range but got the nod anyway.

From this news clipping we learn that Lorraine lived with her family at 685 West End Ave., on the corner of 93rd Street. So Lorraine was exactly at the 20-block limit herself.
